A Different World: An Educational Tool Kit for Building Global Justice A Different World: An Educational Tool Kit for Building Global Justice is now on-line! The new Web site on globalization and development issues, published in English and French, is intended for secondary teachers and all interested in teaching global issues. The web version of A Different World includes: * new learning units (Migration, Trade & Human Rights; Poverty Basic Education) * interactive on-line activities * photo galleries * discussion forums * lots of resources for teachers & students! A Different World is a multimedia educational resource on the themes Poverty and Basic Human Needs and Globalization and Trade. When using this resource, students will complete team projects as a means to apply what they learn through interactive activities. Teachers can draw from fact sheets, handouts and extensive resources on global themes to guide students through the material. “Students loved completing the water usage chart,” says Brenda Hass, a teacher from Pontiac High School who used the Tool Kit in her classroom last year. Developed with social studies teachers in mind, the material is ideal for history & citizenship, geography, and contemporary world courses. The Tool Kit can also be applied in many other subject areas such as language arts, ethics and religious culture, drama and visual arts, and even math! Quebec Education Program-friendly, the resource can also be used in classrooms throughout Canada and beyond. “I used portions of many units when planning for the 30-hour famine hosted at our school this year. (In the future) I plan to use the Tool Kit to inspire more kids to get involved,” says Hass. The Web site is a companion to the print version of the Tool Kit published in 2005 by Learning Materials (LEARN). “What I like about the Tool Kit is that it applies to the “readers” and the “doers” in the classroom. Also, the material is applicable to the students’ own lifestyles and patterns of consumption, ” says Hass. Through these educational initiatives, the Social Justice Committee (SJC) aims to introduce interactive, accessible, multimedia learning materials about social justice to secondary students across Quebec and beyond. Produced by the SJC, this project was made possible with the support of the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency, and with the support of The Foundation of Greater Montreal. English and French versions of the print publication are available from LEARN Click on the link below to visit the Web site A Different World:www.adifferentworld-unmondedifferent.org For more information, contact: Elvira Truglia Coordinator, "A Different World"
