The G–20 – changing the global financial system for better or worse?

Responses of dialogue and of protest...

The SJC joined with partners in the Halifax Initiative Coalition to stage a public conference just prior to the meeting of the "G–20" in Montreal. In October Several hundred people attended the plenary sessions and a choice of workshops and films on international finance and how it needs to be changed.

G20 delegates The public conference was followed by two days of strategy meetings, with some sixty organizations from around the world participating. We also set up a meeting between Paul Martin and Southern representatives, so that they could have a chance to voice their concerns directly to the Finance Minister, who was to chair the G–20 meetings in the coming week..

Unfortunately, an SJC–sponsored open public forum with Finance Minister Paul Martin was cancelled at the last minute by Mr. Martin. It has tentatively been re–scheduled for mid–January.
