Get Involved: Volunteering and Interning with the Social Justice Committee

It's a great opportunity to learn about the situation of developing countries (World Bank and IMF policies, human rights abuses in Central America) and try to make a difference.

There are two main ways for you to get involved with us, either by working with a subcommittee or by coming into the office. The subcommittees meet in the evenings and organize public events (talks, campaigns) Here time constraints are minimal and a lot of the work can be done from home. When volunteering at the office, we expect you to come a minimum of half a day a week.

There is a variety of things to do. The work that we do can make use of some communication and graphic skills. (article writing, contacting media, poster/flyer design) Because there is a lot of work done with Latin America and Canadian government and associations, language skills are also very useful. (Translations in Spanish, English or French). Basic office skills are also handy for daily tasks. (maintaining databases, faxing, emailing) These or other talents you may have will be used to further the cause of social justice. Your enthusiasm and skills will be greatly appreciated.

Here are example projects some of our volunteers and interns were involved with:
